In this program, officers will recognize the importance of "Leadership, Professionalism, Ethics and Time Management" as a foundation to a successful career. The role of a probation officer can only be successfully filled by individuals willing to lead with professionalism, act with integrity and operate with efficiency. This course will explore how to foster these characteristics by focusing on the following specific training objectives:
LEADERSHIP:
1. Establish that leadership is inherent to the officer's role
2. Examine how the "Officer Role" requires leadership in diverse relationships and circumstances

PROFESSIONALISM:
1. Establish that professionalism is inherent to the officer's role
2. Examine the benefits of acting with professionalism
3. Identify the consequences for lack of professionalism
4. Discuss various strategies for enhancing professionalism
TIME MANAGEMENT:
1. Establish that "Time Management" is inherent to the officer's role
2. Review factors that impact time management
• Organization
• Planning
• Work load
• Schedule
• Administration
3. Examine the benefits and consequences associated with the quality of time management
4. Develop a personal strategy for effective "Time Management"
Students will also develop individual strategies for improving their skills in the areas of Leadership, Professionalism, and Time Management. During the process, students will evaluate their current status with regard to each skill. This information will be captured and act as a bench mark for future evaluation of progress.
