Each year the number of offenders under supervision with mental health conditions increases. While many of these offenders successfully complete supervision, a significant number of the offenders that have killed probation and parole officers have a documented history of mental health issues. This program examines cases where officers have been killed or seriously injured in the line of duty by offenders with mental health histories. The program also addresses issues of mental health diagnosis, medications, and provides specific steps officers can take to increase their safety when dealing with this supervision group, while still providing effective supervision and treatment services.
